About Doug Lormand, LPC

A Licensed Professional Counselor and AASECT-certified sex therapist helping couples and individuals work through conflict, intimacy, trust, and the hard calls that come when things stall.

Doug Lormand, LPC

I’m Doug, thank you for being here!

People rarely call a therapist when things are calm. They call when the same argument has been running for months, or after something happened that can’t be walked back, or when the pressure around sex, money, or trust has built with no clear way out. By then, understanding the problem isn’t the hard part. Acting on it is.

Most of my work is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy, shaped by two modalities. The first is Choice Theory, which holds that people choose far more of what happens in their lives than they tend to believe. I trained directly with Dr. William Glasser, who developed it, and I’m still involved with the Glasser Institute. The second is Polarity Management, a way of working with couples who have landed on opposite sides of a question that may not have a clean answer. I also draw on Adlerian therapy, family systems work, and Gottman Level 3 training.

My clients tend to be high-functioning people whose relationships are under strain. The work is structured. I assess what’s driving the pattern, name it, and help build a plan. Clients tell me I’m on point rather than laid back. Sessions run longer when the situation calls for it.

Meet Doug Lormand

I’m Doug Lormand, an LPC and AASECT-certified sex therapist. I’ve spent twenty years helping individuals and couples work through topics around sex, infidelity, and money.

Before private practice, I worked in some of the harder corners of mental health care: acute care psychiatric facilities, inpatient dual diagnosis rehabilitation, intensive outpatient programs, adult mental health services, and community-based settings along the US-Mexico border, where I made home visits across the border region. That range shapes how I practice now. I have seen what happens when a problem is left to sit, and I do not think a relationship in trouble should wait eight weeks for a first appointment.

My graduate work includes a Master of Education in Counseling and a Master of Science in Human Resource Development, with post-graduate training from Columbia University. I’m an active member of AASECT, the American Counseling Association, and the American Mental Health Counselors Association. I’m licensed in Texas, Colorado, and Louisiana, and I see clients online across all three.

Raised in Louisiana and now at home in Texas, I remain deeply connected to the culture, traditions, and sense of community that define both places. Outside of my professional practice, I value an active and engaged lifestyle, spending time outdoors, prioritizing health and well-being, and sharing meaningful time with family and friends.

Doug-on-Demand

The national average wait time to access behavioral health services is 48 days, about seven weeks. When something in your relationship reaches a breaking point, you shouldn’t have to wait that long to talk to someone.

That’s why I coined the name Doug-on-Demand. It’s not a separate service, it’s how I built my whole practice to work: message me, and you’ll typically hear back within 24 hours. No waitlist, no runaround, no explaining your situation to three different people before you reach the person who can actually help.

If something can’t wait, neither should you.

How Doug Works

Direct & Warm

Doug names patterns directly and says what he sees. No months of vague reflection. The point is clarity you can use.

Do Something About It

Insight is a start, not the finish. Doug pushes toward change you can act on, on your timeline, not a therapist’s schedule.

No Pretense

Southern, straight-talking, and honest without being harsh. Therapy works better when the room feels like real life, not a performance.
